Call for Submissions 2012

[ This news item is in English because many of the dance makers in Rotterdam are from abroad ]

Dates: 17 / 18 / 19 / 20 May
Location: Rotterdam

Open Dans is a festival for dance and dance related art, focused on developments in Rotterdam.
We are looking for (young) ambitious dancemakers with fresh ideas and urgency to show their own unique work.

This year Open Dans will happen concurrently with the Dutch Electronic Art Festival (DEAF, www.deaf.nl).
Dance pieces that integrate technology in new and exciting ways can be selected (by Open Dans and DEAF) to be presented in the DEAF context.

Please read on to learn how to fill in an application and tell us why your work should be selected for the festival.

BTW: do not hesitate to apply with a work-in-progress or concept !

Open Dans is a festival for:

Dance and related art; choreography, dance art, dance video, dance installation, dance workshops, dance jam, dance improvisation, site-specific dance
All genres of dance, including but not limited to modern, tango, hiphop, fusion, tap, etcetera
Finished pieces, try-out or work-in-progress (don't hesitate to submit crazy, fresh ideas)
Not only performances but also concerts, debate, workshops

We are looking for:

Urgency, choreography that needs to be made and shown to the public
Enthusiasm, commitment, ambition
People with strong connection to Rotterdam
A diverse program, all genres and forms
Young makers, who do not have had many opportunities to show their work
Works that can be adjusted to the sober technical conditions of the festival

We offer:

A stage with basic equipment
Or the possibility to fit work to the festival location
Audience
Promotion, to the general audience as well as to dance professionals
An action packed weekend with many other dance enthusiasts
We aim to offer a modest fee to participants, but are still awaiting the outcome of our funding applications
